Author Guidelines

General. Annales UMCS Sectio C - Biologia publishes original research papers and review articles on experimental biology, nature preservation, environmental protection, and taxonomical biology as well as reviews, discussions, and biographic records. Articles are evaluated at first by the editor and next by a reviewers. When sending an article for publication, its authors should declare that it has not been submitted elsewhere. Papers should be written in English and sent in an electronic version. The paper should not exceed 22 printed pages (Times New Roman - font size 11 pts) including tables, figures, formulae, and pictures. Latin words should be written in italics. Use the S.I. system only and standard abbreviations of units and symbols. The text of comments, discussion, and biographic notes should not exceed 5 printed pages.

  • Abstracts. Papers should include an abstract, not exceeding 200 words, in which the main points of the paper are summarized.
  • Text. Follow this order when typing manuscripts: Title, Abstract,
  • Keywords, List of abbreviations, and the main text.
  • The corresponding author should be identified with an asterisk and footnote. All other footnotes (except for table footnotes) should be identified with superscript Arabic numbers. The main text should be organized in the following order: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion or Results together with discussion, Acknowledgements,
  • References. References. References, given in alphabetical order, should be numbered successively with Arabic numbers. After the names of all authors, together with their initials, year of publication, title of the paper, abbreviated title of the journal, volume number, and the first and last pages should be given. References to books should contain the editor’s name, publisher, and location as well as the page numbers. The literature in the text is cited according to its number on the list of references. Provide DOI numbers for references if available.
  • Examples. For periodicals:

  • For books: Stryer I. 1986. Biochemistry. PWN, Warszawa.
  • Illustrations. Figures (schemes, formulae, diagrams, pictures) can be included in the text, but if their size is large they should be enclosed on separate sheets and their insertion place in the text should be indicated on the left margin. Subscriptions to figures numbered with Arabic numerals should be listed on a separate sheet. To group pictures, a scheme with their numbered persons or objects should be attached on a separate sheet, explaining whom or what the particular numbers represent.
  • Tables. Tables should be numbered consecutively and imported into the text. Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript (e.g. graphs).

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal. Additionally, you have ready to attach with your article signed percentage of author`s work declaration.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
