The article constitutes an attempt to outline general vision of human that emerges from the short stories of Thomas Ligotti. There were analyzed works from the volume Teatro Grottesco. The writer presented a coherent, clearly nihilistic worldview. Ligotti strips away any features of human uniqueness and shows man as a slave of powerful forces, devoid of will and an ability to act. The analysis was carried out taking into account the metaphors typical of Ligotti, i.e. puppets and corporations.
