The Use of Modern Technologies in the Process of Mediation in Armed Conflict
Abstract
The aim of this article is to explore the role of modern technologies, particularly digital diplomacy, in the process of mediation in armed conflicts. The evaluation focuses on how digital technologies can support traditional diplomatic approaches, improve communication between conflicting parties, and accelerate the process of conflict resolution. A key aspect examined is whether digital tools are sufficiently effective to replace traditional methods, or if their greatest value lies in complementing the personal interactions of diplomats. The article employs a literature review and case studies from mediation practices to assess the impact of modern technologies on diplomatic processes. It analyzes how digital technologies, such as video conferencing, social media, data analysis, and artificial intelligence, can support various stages of mediation, including conflict analysis, party engagement, and strategic communication. The analysis shows that digital diplomacy has significant potential to improve mediation processes, particularly in increasing the accessibility and speed of communication between conflicting parties. Digital tools can facilitate contact, analyze large data sets, and predict potential conflict escalations. However, they lack certain key elements of personal interaction, such as building deep trust and empathy, which are often crucial in long-term negotiations. Therefore, the authors suggest that the best results are achieved through a hybrid approach, combining traditional diplomacy with modern technologies.
