In Memory of… Non Necrologically

Ewa Bulisz

Abstract

The article is a genology and media-oriented analysis of articles on women published in contemporary women magazines. The memories-articles on women replace traditional obituary press notices and are a way of preserving the memories of the deceased. The author distinguishes three types of memories-articles that occur in women magazines: a journalistic article, a piece of news and an interview. It can be noticed that memory-article is a hybrid genre consisting of elements borrowed from different genres. The analysis of cognitive, pragmatic, stylistic and structural aspects of memories-articles become the major area of interest for the author. The pieces of research are based on linguistic genology that is oriented at media studies.
