Frontex As a Specialised Agency of European Union

Nikol Wałucka

Abstract

As of today the European Union is the space of freedom, security and justice. This entails the free movement of persons and the lack of internal borders. The establishment of the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union on 26th October, 2004 was another stage of the Member States’ integration. With the increasing number of conflicts and the continuous development of the EU, Frontex ensures security of the EU citizens as well as helps the EU to harmonize its activities on all borders. It does so thanks to its appropriately trained staff and the co-operation between the Member States. This article emphasizes the increasing role of the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union.
