The Role of Employers in Shaping Graduate’s Profile

Abstract

The National Qualifications Framework introduced as a part of the higher education reform in 2011 imposed on HEIs an obligation to commence works on study programmes. An important change was remodelling study programmes with paying special attention to knowledge, skills and competences. These works were closely related with the development of graduate’s profile, which
provided for the new philosophy underpinning the drafting of study programmes and which took into consideration the requirements of the modern labour market. The establishment of the graduate’s
profile constitutes one of the most important elements of the development of study programmes. Learning outcomes for a given field of study, which reflect the requirements of modern labour
market, are important determinants for the establishment of the graduate’s profile. In order to adapt the process of education to labour market needs, the reform of higher education strengthens the role of employers by obliging HEIs to establish councils, in which they sit. The reform has resulted in the new approach to the teaching process and the introduction of the graduate’s profile, which should meet the requirements of the modern labour market.
