Emotional Readiness to Dialogue with a Culturally Different Person of Present and Future Social Workers

Abstract


The aim of the research was to find differences in the level of emotional readiness to dialogue with a culturally different person between current and future social workers. The survey method was used in the research, and the research tool was the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale by Guo-Ming Chen and William J. Starosta. The research covered two groups of people: social workers and students of the last year of first and second cycle studies in the field of social work, 40 people in both groups. The analysis of the results showed that the level of readiness to contact a culturally different person of both studied group can be described as average in some dimensions, such as mindfulness/urgency in interaction with the tendency towards high results. The social workers surveyed performed slightly better in this analysis. However, the difference between them and the candidates for social workers is small.
