The Border Problem in Ukrainian-Russian Relations: History and Present

Mykola Doroshko

Abstract

The article deals with the main stages of the formation of the territory of the sovereign Ukrai nian state in the 20th century, hence the history of the formation of Ukraine’s borders with neighboring states. Despite the conclusion of interstate agreements, which define the state borders of Ukraine, the authorities of Putin’s Russia, in violation of the norms of international law, in 2014 illegally annexed the Ukrainian Crimea and began armed aggression against Ukraine, which continues to this day. The author is convinced that it is possible to avoid the revision of borders in Europe only if an anti-Putin coalition of states is created, similar to the anti-Hitler coalition of the Second World War, capable of legally pun ishing the Russian Federation, a state that violates international law.
