Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

 

Author Guidelines

In the magazine East of Europe. Humanities and Social Studies, articles are published in Polish, English and Russian. The editorial office may decide to publish a scientific text in other languages if it is justified by the research topic of the article. The submitted texts should be original works, never previously published and not submitted for publication in another publishing house

  1. Submission of the article to the East of Europe Humanities and social studies magazine are available only through the website: journals.umcs.pl/k.
  2. Manuscripts for publication must be submitted in electronic format as a Word document, and cannot exceed 60,000 characters with spaces, including footnotes.
  3. Each manuscript should be divided into smaller sections, preferably separated by headings. Manuscripts must be between 32,000 and 60,000 characters in length (with spaces, i.e., blank areas between words). Manuscripts should be accompanied with: an abstract in Polish, English and Russian; keywords (no more than 6–7 words) in Polish, English and Russian;  the author’s biographical details in Polish,  English and Russian (scientific degree/title, position, affiliation, e-mail address, ORCID number).
  4. The abstract should be factual by no more than 1 thousand. characters with spaces. It should include the identification of the research object and research hypotheses / questions, applied research methods, research results and main conclusions. The read text, in isolation from the rest of the work, is to inform about its content. All language versions of the abstract should be identical
  5. A full Bibliography should be given in alphabetical order at the end of the manuscript; it should be divided into two sections – Sources and Literature. Please use the following forms of bibliographic description:
    • Books and monographs
      Author’s name (surname and initial(s)), Title of the publication in italics, Publisher, Place and date of publication.
    • Articles or chapters in edited books
      Author of the article/chapter (surname and initial(s)), Title of the article/chapter in italics, [in:] Title of the publication in italics, ed./eds Name(s) of editor(s), Publisher, Place and date of publication.
    • Journal articles
      Author of the article (surname and initial(s)), Title of the article in italics, "Title of the journal" (within double quotation marks) and year of publication, issue numer.
    • Articles in newspapers
      Author of the article (surname and initial(s)), Title of the article, "Title of the newspaper" (within double quotation marks), date of publication (day, month, year), issue number.
    • Publications accessible on the Internet
      Author of the article (surname and initial(s)), Title of the publication in italics, http address.
  6. Reviews should be between 14,000 and 24,000 characters in length (with spaces, i.e. blank areas between words). Headings of reviews take the following form:
    • Title of the review.
    • For reviewed books and monographs (by a single author): First name and surname of the author, Full title of the reviewed publication, Publisher, Place of publication and Year of publication, number of pages.
    • For reviewed edited books: Full title of the edited book, First name(s) and surname(s) of the editor(s), Publisher, Place of publication and Year of publication, number of pages.
  7. Each submitted manuscript should be accompanied with the following materials both in English and in Polish: abstract, keywords, the author’s biographical details and bibliography.
  8. Graphic materials (photographs, scans, maps, diagrams, charts) may be placed in the manuscript or sent as a separate file in .jpg format, indicating the place in the text to which they refer. Tables should be drawn up in Word and incorporated into the main text. The description of graphic materials must follow the rules applied for tables.
  9. In the event that publications in languages based on non-Latin alphabets or characters are referred to, they should be written in the original script in the main text and in footnotes, but in the bibliography they should be Latinized according to international standards of transliteration.
  10. Footnotes are to be placed at the bottom of the page; Latin abbreviations should be used (videconferibidemop. cit., idemeadem).

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal. Additionally, you have ready to attach with your article signed percentage of author`s work declaration.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
