Abstract
The article examines the concept of pragmatics in the work of Yuriy Derenikovich Apresyan, situating it within the broader framework of semiotic theory. It explores the definitional evolution of pragmatics in Apresyan’s writings, tracing its initial alignment with the perspective of Charles Morris, which linked pragmatics to the relationship between linguistic expressions and their interpreters. In his later works, Apresyan shifted his understanding of pragmatics, redefining it as the attitude of the speaker to reality, to the content of the utterance, and to the addressee, encoded in language. The discussion highlights the role of pragmatics within Apresyan’s theory of integrated linguistic description, developed through extensive lexicographical, semantic, and syntactic research. The analysis focuses on linguistic markers of pragmatic information, the judgments speakers make regarding pragmatic aspects of signs, and the lexicographically relevant mechanisms underpinning these processes.
