Streszczenie w języku polskim


Sokrates z Konstantynopola wiele miejsca w swej Historii kościelnej poświęcił Macedoniuszowi. Przedstawił w niej biskupa stolicy wschodniej części cesarstwa w czarnych barwach. Widział w nim herezjarchę i przypisywał mu brutalne prześladowanie swoich przeciwników religijnych, w tym mordy, tortury i burzenie kościołów. Wielu współczesnych badaczy wydaje się ten skrajnie negatywny obraz Macedoniusza przyjmować za prawdziwy. Autor podjął próbę wyjaśnienia, czy mógł on być zgodny z prawdą i czy Sokrates miał jakieś powody, aby wykreować tak negatywny portret Macedoniusza.
