Peer Review Process

  1. The received articles and editions of sources are initially evaluated formally by the members of the editorial board and the thematic editors. After being accepted they are directed to the external reviewers.
  2. In case of the article being unsuitable for publication, the received material is returned to the author.
  3. All articles and editions of sources sent by the authors and qualified for the publication by the editorial board are subjected to the review procedures.
  4. In order to assess each publication, at least two independent external reviewers from outside of the Maria Curie Skłodowska University, the academic board of the journal and the institution employing the Author of the reviewed text and who are additionally not attached to the author by any personal relations are being appointed.
  5. The articles are directed to honest and possibly the most competent reviewers in the problematic aspects concerning the subject matters of a specific article.
  6. The reviewers have a degree of at least an assistant-professor.
  7. All the articles are reviewed in accordance with respecting the confidentiality rules and mutual anonymity, which means that during the entire procedure both the reviewer and the author have no mutual knowledge of their personal details. The article receives an editorial number, which identifies it in a further procedure of publishing.
  8. The review is of a written form and it ends with an unambiguous conclusion which either grants permission to publish the article or to reject it. The reviews are archived by the editorial office in digital and/or paper version.
  9. Works which were granted two positive reviews are directed to publishing.
  10. The authors receive a review of their material for their own information.
  11. In case of any potential objections of the reviewer regarding the articles which were sent for the review, the editorial office takes over the responsibility of mediating between the reviewer and the authors, allowing to respond to the submitted comments.
  12. The author is obliged to make changes in his/her work in accordance with suggestions of the reviewer- unless he/she will demonstrate in a convincing manner that the changes are not justified. The final decision about either accepting or rejecting the article belongs to the editorial office.
  13. The consolidated list of all the cooperating reviewers is placed in the last issue of the journal from the given year and on the internet website reshistorica.umcs.lublin.pl.
  14. The foundations for the reviewing procedures are the recommendations of the Group of Ethics in Science, placed in a publication Good Practices in the Reviewing Methods in Sciences (Dobre praktyki w procedurach recenzyjnych w nauce) Warsaw 2011.

The statement on the ethical principles of the journal has been prepared based on the guidelines of the Committee of Publication Ethics – COPE (www.publicationethics.org). To ensure high quality of published texts, the journal „Res Historica” shall adhere to certain ethical standards.

                                  Editorial Board

In the case of multi-authorship, the editorial board of „Res Historica” requires that the contribution of individual authors to the text be specified. In such a situation, the affiliation, percentage of the creative contribution to the paper should be specified for each author. It is necessary to identify the author of the concept, assumptions and methods used in the development of the publication. This responsibility is first and foremost vested in the person who submits the text for publication.

The editorial board of Res Historica shall document all manifestations of scientific dishonesty, in particular infringements of the principles of ethics in science.

In particular, so-called Ghostwriting and Guest Authorship is deemed by the editorial board a manifestation of scientific dishonesty. Ghostwriting means any situations in which a particular person makes a significant contribution to the publication without being credited as one of the authors of the publication, or without mentioning his/her role in the acknowledgements contained in the publication. Guest Authorship is understood by the editorial board as all situations in which the author's contribution is actually negligible or non- existent, but he or she is still identified as the author or co-author of the publication.

All manifestations of scientific dishonesty found by the editorial board shall be disclosed and notified to competent entities, in particular to the institutions hiring the author, and to academic and publishing associations.

                                     Peer-reviewers

Designated peer-reviewers are supposed to guarantee independence and lack of conflict of interest in the relationship between the reviewer and the author, which entails the lack of direct personal relationship, professional dependence and direct research cooperation for the period of five years prior to preparing the review.

                                            Authors

Publications submitted to „Res Historica” should be original, reliable, objective and should match the subject matter of the journal.

The editorial board of „Res Historica” does not accept texts that have already been published in whole or in part in other journals.

                                          Plagiarism

Plagiarism in any form, in particular appropriation of the scientific output, theoretical concept or final conclusions, is not permitted. Cases of committing plagiarism shall be disclosed and reported to the competent authorities by the editorial board.
